QA & Product Support Specialist

About the Role

Rooted Farmers is an agricultural technology startup committed to empowering small and mid-size farms to transform the world.  We serve as a software and online sales platform, providing farms with tools and analytics to support inventory management and sales, connecting farms and hubs with wholesale and retail buyers.

Rooted is comprised of a small but growing team of mission-driven individuals based on the East Coast.  We move fast, but quality matters deeply - our members depend on our tools to do real work, and we take that seriously.  We're looking for someone who cares as much about the user experience as we do, and wants to own quality across the product.

The Role

This is a hands-on role at the intersection of quality assurance, user experience, and customer enablement. This person will be embedded with our engineering team — attending sprint planning and UX meetings — while also serving as a key bridge to our support team. They will own the quality of what we ship, shape how users learn and adopt new features, and use data to identify where users need help before they ask for it.

This is a full-time role. You will work remotely, and should ideally be located on the East Coast to facilitate ETD working hours and some in-person collaboration.

Quality Assurance & Bug Ownership

  • Partner directly with individual developers and the product owner working on new features or fixes to define testing plans and acceptance criteria
  • Manually test all new features before release, executing against those plans
  • Own the full bug lifecycle — replicate and validate reported issues, write clear and reproducible bug tickets, track them through resolution, verify fixes, and close the loop with customers who reported them
  • Coordinate regression testing after fixes to make sure nothing breaks along the way
  • Recruit and coordinate support team members (who are also power users) to participate in additional testing when needed

Analytics & User Insights

  • Own our Pendo.io integration end to end — from configuration and tagging to analysis
  • Monitor Pendo analytics and Google Analytics to identify workflows where users struggle or drop off
  • Surface user feedback patterns and translate them into actionable recommendations for the product team
  • Use data to prioritize which areas of the product need better guidance or UX improvements

User Enablement

  • Build and maintain Pendo in-app click-through tutorials and guides for new and existing features
  • Create tutorial videos that help users understand and adopt new functionality
  • Prepare internal documentation and release notes so the support team is ready when new features ship

Cross-Team Communication

  • Serve as the primary liaison between engineering and support — making sure information flows in both directions
  • Participate in sprint planning to understand upcoming work and flag potential quality or usability risks early
  • Communicate directly with customers when resolving reported bugs — setting expectations, confirming fixes, and ensuring satisfaction

What We're Looking For

  • Some structured background in manual QA — you've done testing before, even if you're not a senior QA engineer
  • Comfort with (or eagerness to learn) tools like Pendo.io, Google Analytics, and bug tracking systems (Jira, Linear, etc.)
  • Experience creating user-facing content — tutorials, walkthroughs, short videos, documentation
  • Strong written and verbal communication — you'll be writing bug reports, coordinating with developers, responding to customers, and creating user guides regularly
  • Curiosity about how real people actually use software, not just how it's supposed to work
  • A self-starter mentality — you'll own these areas, not wait to be told what to test next
  • Bonus: experience in ag-tech, or familiarity with the workflows and challenges farmers face

What This Role Is Not

This isn't a senior QA engineering position. We're not looking for someone to build automated test frameworks or write scripts. We need someone who is sharp, organized, user-obsessed, and motivated to grow into a role that spans QA, product analytics, and customer enablement.
