The Spring Bunch, in the Huntington hilltop of Shelton Connecticut, grows cut-flowers for the wholesale market. The bulk of our stems are sold through the Connecticut Flower Collective in Middletown. It is possible to pick up in Shelton. Our 2025 list is comprised of about 120 cultivars across 55 or so genera. While our biggest harvests are of Daffodils, Alliums, Peonies, Marigolds and Chrysanthemums we are always listening to florists and growing to meet market requests for new and different cultivars. ANEMONE
On Sale. Big July rains just when Japanese Anemone " Curtain Call" was thirsty is making for stretchy, punchy and plummy-blossomed stems. Best that we have ever seen with a catchy yellow eye to keep everything in focus. Curtain Call is the first round in the substantial and durable blossoms of late summer.
TAGETES erecta
Cultivar Giant Orange, simple-minded deep and robust-colored cushions that have a sculptural presence like no other flower.
BAPTISIA australis
Luxurious September baptisia foliage , aka redneck eucalyptus. Tough and serviceable.
ROSA hybrida
Rose Hips !!! We grow this monstrous cultivar solely because it makes such good hips.
SALVIA officinalis
If suede was green it would be called sage. Sassy spring sprigs sport multiple flowers.
ALSTROEMERIA x Casablanca
By design we grow a lot of white flowers. In full sunlight Alstroemeria Casa Blanca is a singular and superior white-colored bloom. Whether it is because of the gold and pink blush around the flower pod, or the parallel burgundy dashes guiding the incoming pollinators, I find this a thrilling stem . Incredibly long lasting this is a first class filler candidate for weekly contract work or any bouquet that needs to deliver stamina. Many of the modern Alstroemeria hybrids that we know today were bred in Connecticut via a UCONN ag program in the 1980’s and 90’s. My farm-landlord trialed them back then when his kids were in diapers, before they were sent to the Andes for production. The seedlings that is, not the children.

CENTERGLOW: green, amber and gold leafed ninebark. These are very large branches with large leaves. Overall impression is richly colored but not loud, mixes superbly with any and all.

Recognizable at twenty paces Hank is a champion of brand identity. You can never be too rich or too thin. We never tire of his slim charm and sophistication. We cut them taller than the headliner of the market truck.
CLEMATIS integrifolia x durandii Rooguchi
Fancy, freestanding clematis on long bud studded stems. These are fresh second cutting stems : lush foliage, fresh apical blooms with plenty of viable buds in reserve. A cooler color palette provider. Serpentine and really substantial sturdy blooms with lots of buds for a long uncoiling show in the arrangement.
PHYSOCARPUS opulifolius Summer Wine
BLACK SUMMER WINE : small shiny and detailed leaves in the darkest color of any ninebark. Super sophisticated.
ARALIA racemosa
Aralia cordata 'Sun King' - Golden Japanese Spikenard . Two foot rhythmic branches of chartreuse compound leaves. These are younger cuttings that are vigorous and bright. It is a loud player, but its vigor and freshness is buoyant and expanding. Provides a lot of vitality, stature, shocking color and grace in situ or in the arrangement.
