Potted plant: Korean bellflower, Campanula takisemana

Potted plant: Korean bellflower, Campanula takisemana

A politely-spreading flowering groundcover. This rarely-seen perennial campanula spreads via rhizomes, though not aggressively, to form a mat of evergreen foliage that suppresses weeds. In mid June, 18-36" flower spikes emerge, sporting cascades of pedulous bells with pale blush exteriors, and spotted lilac interiors. A valuable cut flower during the garden's lean "June gap" and beyond through early July. Happiest in full sun or part shade. 1 gallon pot, inquire about quantity discounts.

Potted Plant: Geum 'Totally Tangerine' Avens

Potted Plant: Geum 'Totally Tangerine' Avens

Low maintenance, prolifically-flowering perennial. Evergreen, basal foliage mound sends up 16-32" flower stalks in May, for an impressive flush of bloom for Mother's Day. Dainty, cheery flowers make excellent cuts, and if harvested, plants can send a second flush of blooms in late June. Low maintenance and unbothered by groundhogs, deer, rabbits, squirrels. Happy in sun or deciduous tree shade, without noticeable impact on flowering. 1 gallon pot, inquire about quantity discounts.

Potted plant: Gooseneck loosestrife, 1 gal

Potted plant: Gooseneck loosestrife, 1 gal

A critter resistant perennial, Lysimachia clethroides sports white spires in mid June to early July, providing interest during the garden’s “June gap.” The gracefully curved inflorescences earned the common name of Gooseneck Loosestrife. Harvest as a substitute for Veronica in floral design, or enjoy in the landscape, where the flowers are visited by pollinators. It sends runners, but not aggressively, useful to establish a stand in difficult areas like slopes, ditches, fencelines, mown garden edges. Very low maintenance and unbothered by deer, rabbits, groundhogs. Happiest in part shade or full sun with wet feet, though drier conditions can help slow its spread. 1 gallon size. Inquire about bulk discounts.

Potted plant: Lady's Mantle, Alchemilla mollis

Potted plant: Lady's Mantle, Alchemilla mollis

An excellent perennial groundcover for year-round interest and dual cut floral usage. Foliage stabilizes and protects soil layer for winter, and in early spring, sprouts new growth of silvery-sage rounded scalloped leaves, which can be cut for floral designs. In late May, sprays of chartreuse-lemon inflorescences are borne, known as a long-lasting, airy cut flower element. Used in European herbal medicine for wound healing and women's health, the dew and rain that beads up on the foliage was deemed to possess magical qualities by medieval alchemists, hence the Latin genus. Happy in full or part shade, or full sun if kept well watered. Low maintenance and unbothered by groundhogs, deer, rabbits, squirrels. 1 gallon pot, inquire about quantity discounts.
